Solution for Excavators
Together with Rototilt, Martinsson developed a new safety-classified display solution for Rototilt's latest control system, RC™ System.
The idea was to always display critical information in one and the same place, regardless of the nature of the assignment, in this case it applies to pump pressure before and after the pump, the number of liters of water in the tank, the amount of foam liquid, etc.
Autokaross in Floby builds customized rescue vehicles equipped with the latest technology.
Together with our graphic partner Republic, Martinsson has developed a modern control panel with touchscreen technology to control functions in the fire engine, such as pump engine, water supply, additional lighting, etc.
Previously, this was managed through a control panel with physical buttons at the back of the vehicle. With a modern screen-based solution, new possibilities were opened to simplify processes and provide a better overview in stressful situations.
This also gave Autokaross the opportunity to offer new additional services, such as support for auxiliary functions, diagnostics over current data, etc.
A first step in the project was to categorize the menu choices so it became a so-called event-based system. This meant that the first choice the firefighter makes is to choose the mission type, e.g. if it is a rescue or fire mission.
After this, only the functions you need to have access to for the current assignment are displayed. This provides a faster, clearer and more intuitive user interface, something that is greatly appreciated in a work situation where every second can be critical.
It was also very important for the customer to keep the interface extra clear and frugal as it is a work tool that will be in smoke and dust and often navigated with gloves.
An early idea was to always display critical information in one and the same place, regardless of the nature of the assignment, in this case it applies to pump pressure before and after the pump, the number of liters of water in the tank, the amount of foam liquid, etc. When it comes to warnings of various kinds, we were asked to take inspiration from an airplane cockpit where, in the case of multiple warnings, the system makes an automatic choice where less critical information is suppressed in order to minimize stress and highlight the most important problem at the moment.
The system has been well received on the market and it will make the firefighters’ everyday life easier. Autokaross will continue to lead the development with a good result where everyone in society benefits from a safe and efficient rescue service.
"The interest in the new panel was amazing and very positive. Everyone who saw the panel and tried it was very impressed with how easy it is to use and how quickly you learn how the panel works"
